Swim Lesson Signups and Meet The Life Guards

Sign up for swim lessons and meet the life guards on May 28 from 6-7 pm at the VFW.
Can't make signup night? Don't worry. Register at the Bennington Town Hall by Wednesday, July 2.

Fees: Beginner: $10; Intermediate, Advanced, and Adult: $15
The registration fee is per participant per session ($25 maximum per family per session.)

Three skill level classes are offered during each session based on demand. The adult session allows adults to improve stroke skills. A minimum of 5 is needed to hold the class.

Session I: July 26 – July 30
11- 11:30 a.m. Beginner
11:30-12:30 p.m. Intermediate
1:00 - 2 p.m. Advanced

Session II: Aug 9 – 13
5:30 - 6 p.m. Beginner
6 - 7 p.m. Intermediate
7 - 8 p.m. Advanced

Adult Session: Aug 16-20
6:30-7:30 pm

Join us for a rockin' good time and kick off our summer fun festival with a block party! Haven't had your dinner or need a little snack. Stop by the BBQ ($) to fill your belly.

Festival and Muster
July 24
Sawyer Field

10 a.m.
We'll start the day with a parade. Join in and decorate a float! Kids, decorate your bike and ride in the bike parade. Parents, we're slowing down the parade for the kids.

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
We're bringing back the fun-n-games at Sawyer Field. Enter your family recipe in our Rib Off and Pie Off and see if it's truly as good as grandma (or grandpa) says! Cheer on your firemen as they battle it out with other fire departments at the muster. Dunk your favorite community member in our dunk tank. And, of course, there's a whole lot of fun for the kids--games, face painting, balloons and more. We'll also kick off fundraising for a playground at Sawyerfield! Don't miss the fun!!!

Town Wide Yard Sale

PAINTING WITH A LIMITED PALETTE

Start your Thanksgiving break with a watercolor workshop! Learn how to paint using a limited color palette while producing a fun still life of fruit. Sign up at the town Hall or contact Shelagh at 588-2731. A minimum of 6 is needed to run this class.

THE GIVING DAY

The Rec Dept. is asking all those in our Community to join on on this special day. We will be making Christmas cards for soldiers, putting together carepackages for the soldiers and putting together Thanksgiving Baskets for those in need. We are going to be collecting baked goods for the soldiers and the baskets. If you have a donation but are unable to attend our Giving Day, please call Shelagh @ 588 2731 for a drop off. Thank You

PUMPKIN CARVING AND SCARECROWS

The Rec Dept would like all those Halloween Tricksters and Magical Scarecrows to join us on Sunday, October 25th. We will be carving pumpkins and finding the best spot to display your scarecrow!!! If you know you will be there, an email to the rec dept would be greatly appreciated(we want to make sure we have pumpkins for all).

So hope to see all at 1:00 at the Bennington VFW. Remember to bring your scarecrows!!!

Wapack FIRST Lego League

Halloween Survey

There are some people that like to give out candy at Halloween but not many kids go to their house. Perhaps, we can have a spot(school parking lot?) and have "Trick or Trunk."

HAMMY DOWN DAY aka Swap Shop

Well, all the old clothes are out of the dresser and the new clothes are in!! Are you thinking you did not get enough school clothes? Where can I bring the good hammy downs? The Rec Dept has the answer.

On Saturday, September 26th, we will host our Hammy Down Day (formerly Swap Shop).

All donations can be dropped off at 8 Acre Street or at the VFW. We accept clean clothes, shoes, coats, and any winter gear.

Doors will open at 10:00.

Fire Muster Recap

Fire trucks galore, yummy pies, lip smacking ribs, a bicycle parade and pie throwing were just a few of the events featured at the Bennington Fire Muster on Aug. 22.

Our pie bake off winners were: 1st place: Karen Hall; 2nd place: Willow Tarr; 3rd place: a tie between Kathy Wolfford and Mandy Grenier.

Our rib cook off winners were: 1st place: Kathy Wolfford ; 2nd place: Aimee Bartlett.

Thank you to all who participated and those who came to enjoy the day!!

We would appreciate any comments and suggestions for this muster or next year's.

Scarecrows Downtown

A great display of the the Firefighters, food, entertainment, and a whole day of laughs, guaranteed!

Event Highlights

Fire Truck and Children's Bike Parade at 12 pm
Fire Trucks assemble at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church; end at Sawyer Field. Apparatus judging at 11 am.

Kids, decorate your bike, stroller, or wagon in red, white, and blue and assemble behind the trucks at 11:30 to ride in the parade. Best three win a prize. Bike Parade ends at the VFW.

Fire Muster at 1 pm
Come cheer your local firemen on as they compete in events like, the bucket brigade, dry hose, wet hose, and more.

Rib Cook Off
Do you have the best ribs in town? Make it official. Compete in the Rib Cook Off! Sign up at the Bennington Country Store. All ribs must be ready to judge and at the field for 1 p.m.

Want to judge the ribs? Enter our raffle to win one of three judging positions. Raffle located at Bennington Country Store.

Pie Bake Off
Do you have the best pie in town? Make it official. Compete in the Pie Bake Off! Sign up at the Bennington Country Store. All pies must be ready to judge and at the field for 1 p.m.

BBQ
